ACLS Update/Refresher Courses

Description:

The American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support course builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous high-quality CPR. It reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC). Through the ACLS course, healthcare providers will enhance their skills in the treatment of the adult victim of cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies. ACLS emphasizes the importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival: the integration of effective basic life support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions; and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.

Audience:

The ACLS course is designed for healthcare professionals who direct or manage cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies; personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units; physicians, nurses, and paramedics; and others who need an ACLS course completion card for job or other requirements.

Required Prerequisite:

The American Heart Association requires completion of an online precourse self-assessment prior to your ACLS update class. Medcourse will automatically enroll you in this program and email your login instructions, allowing us to track your progress and directly verify your completion certificate. Alternatively, you may choose to self-enroll and complete the program via the AHA ShopCPR Portal; however, if you choose this option, you must bring your completion certificate to class as proof. Please do not delay in starting this program—you can start and stop at your convenience, but it should be completed as soon as possible.

Textbook:

Each student must have a copy of the 2025 edition of the ACLS Provider Manual for use before, during, and after the course. You can purchase a paper or digital eBook copy from the American Heart Association:
